QA Manager

Job Description:

Large diversified food manufacturer is seeking a QA MANAGER in the Waterloo, IA area. Reporting to the Plant Manager, the successful candidate is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining quality systems, consistent with Company specifications, policies and procedures as well as regulatory compliance. In addition, the incumbent is also responsible for the supervision of Quality and Sanitation staff. 

The successful applicant will provide support to the high performance work culture and foster a learning environment that requires involvement and personal accountability.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ÿ  Is a member of plant leadership team participating in overall direction of plant activities.

Ÿ  Directly or indirectly manages, supervises and directs the activities of Quality and Sanitation personnel. Promotes the development of direct reports and the technical competence of direct reports and laboratory technicians.

Ÿ  Implements and administers Company Quality Systems approach to Quality management by implementing programs, policies, procedures and processes which comply with company, plant and government regulations.

Ÿ  Leads the development, implementation, maintenance and ongoing improvement of the sites Quality and Food Safety System as required to comply with required certifications.

Ÿ  Lead the development and implementation of Food Safety Fundamentals and Food Safety Plan(s) (via Product HACCP Plans or equivalent).

Ÿ  Oversee the development, implementation, review, and maintenance and sustainability of the SQF System

Ÿ  Ensure the integrity of execution, maintenance and sustainability of the SQF 2000 (or equivalent Food Safety /Food Quality Strategy).

Ÿ  Communicate to relevant Plant and Corporate personnel information (trends, data, needs, noncompliance, internal and external audits, surveys, etc.) to ensure effective implementation and maintenance of the SQF 2000 System (or equivalent Food Safety/Food Quality Strategy).

Ÿ  Ensures the maintenance of Quality Standards and Specifications within the operation and notes areas which negatively affect product and process quality. Coordinates, recommends and implements corrective actions to address any discrepancies.

Ÿ  Liaison between Corporate QA and Research and Development to coordinate the implementation of new quality programs, procedures and specifications prior to the initiation of new product lines.

Ÿ  Develops and maintains a positive rapport with external agencies as required. Investigates any complaints or concerns identified and coordinates the development of action plans to address issues.

Ÿ  Administers and directs the analytical, micro-biological and physical analysis of materials, in process, finished packaged product to ensure compliance with company standards and specifications as well as compliance with governmental legislation.

Ÿ  Works with Research and Development technology to assure timely implementation of new or revised products or processes by reviewing new/proposed specifications and procedures, organizing needed testing, analyzing output and supplying feedback to provide the desired product in the appropriate time frame that meets quality, manufacturing efficiency and cost parameters.

Ÿ  Coordinates timely communications with customers and suppliers through specification compliance verification and consumer complaint review to ensure that finished products meet customers’ expectations.

Ÿ  Develops and manages the QA budget. 

REQUIREMENTS:

Ÿ  B.S. degree in Food Science or related field.

Ÿ  Minimum of 5-7 years experience in food quality including expertise in Quality Systems Management in a food production environment. Minimum 3-5 years experience in a management role

Ÿ  Excellent leadership and team building skills

Ÿ  Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written

Ÿ  Expertise in the use of statistical concepts in the control of manufacturing operations

Ÿ  Individual must be an agent for change with a demonstrated ability to effectively problem solve

Ÿ  Individual must thrive in a fast paced, demanding environment

Ÿ  Has the ability to train Operations in the use of SPC tools and drives the implementation of control charts

Ÿ  Solid understanding and knowledge of Microsoft Office
