Cost Accountant

Location: Bartlett, IL

JOB SUMMARY

Our client is a leading Snack Food Manufacturer with over 6 Plants located strategically across the US. Their Corporate headquarters is located in the Bartlett, IL area, (Northwest of Chicago). Due to recent expansion, they are currently seeking a COST ACCOUNTANT to be based out of their Corporate Headquarters.   

The Cost Accountant will provide relevant financial support to the assigned Plant (Texas Plant) through cost analysis, monthly reporting and forecast/budget preparation.  This cost accounting professional will possess a solid understanding of financial and cost accounting manufacturing reporting systems, and provide relevant data for Plant and Corporate management.  

Duties and Responsibilities:

·        Information gathering and analysis relating to inventory, equipment, and labor costs utilizing QAD and Microsoft applications.

·        Perform the reporting and commentary on actual monthly results for the TX plant and provide comparative analysis to current forecast and prior year.   

·        Prepares and reports analysis on operational performance and budget variances to strengthen cost controls, reduce costs, and increase efficiencies.  Make recommendations as appropriate.

·        Provide data and are an integral part of the annual budget process to ensure resulting standards are accurate.  Ensure budget is prepared in sufficient detail to ensure proper analysis can be performed.   

·        Visit plant location in Texas once each quarter to review results and ensure accuracy of standards related to plant production.

·        Analyzes production yield, costs, and efficiencies.   

·        Create efficient senior management summaries to highlight findings on a monthly basis. 

·        Perform month end and pre month end duties. 

·        Develop and implement procedures in writing to standardize costing and analysis of product output costs.

·        Develop standard costs for Marketing and new template to ensure accuracy of costing for ease of use for Marketing and Customer P&L’s.

·        Provide cost accounting support for the plant and act as the liaison between Selma and Corporate Accounting.   

·        Assist accounting with additional accounting related responsibilities and projects as needed.

·        Perform special projects as directed by the Cost Accounting Manager, Corporate Controller or Operations.   

Qualifications: 

• Bachelor of Arts/Science Degree in Accounting or related discipline required. 
• Three to five + years of experience in Accounting in a manufacturing environment.
• 2+ years of Cost Accounting experience 
• CPA or CMA is a plus
• Excellent computer skills with Microsoft Office applications with strong skills in Excel and report generation. 
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to travel once per quarter to visit assigned Plant (Texas)
